Howell started six rows back in twelfth in the inverted field of 20 sprinters who transferred from the heats out of the original 25 cars making the trip. Howell held of a strong challenge in the late stages of the race from Jerry Hammock in #4 who started tail end of the field due to his yellow ribbon earned as the previous feature event winner to finish second. Chris Thode in #42 worked his way into the third spot from his seventh starting position.
